KNOW BEFORE YOU THROW

  1. Cardboard

    Flattened Corrugated Cardboard only.  

    This is accepted at all of the transfer stations and recycling depots.

    NOT ACCEPTED
    • Food or other organics left inside.
    • Wet paper towels or toilet tissues.
    • Wax coated cardboard. 
  2. Office Paper

    Computer, copier paper, white bond and ledger paper, envelopes without windows and shredded paper.

    Accepted at all transfer stations and depots.  
  3. Newsprint

    Daily and community
    newspapers and advertising flyers.


    This is accepted at all of the transfer stations and recycling depots.
  4. Paint and Household Hazardous waste


    Most household and spray paint is accepted at the transfer stations as part of the Alberta Recycling Program.  Please ensure the lids are on the paint cans.

  5. Used Oil Products

    Used oil is only accepted at the Rocky Transfer  Station.

     This includes rags, jugs, pails, and used oil.  Please ask window attendant upon arrival.   ​​
  6. Pesticide Containers

    All pesticide containers must be triple rinsed, punctured, and empty. Caps removed.
    Booklets removed and recycled.

    They are accepted at the Everdell, Caroline, Leslieville Crossroads and Rocky transfer stations. 
  7. Plastic


    Plastics

    HDPE Plastics and Clear jugs

    These can be taken to the Transfer stations or depots for recycling or the Landfill for disposal.  

    FILM PLASTICS WILL NO LOGER BE ACCEPTED FOR RECYCLING.  THIS INCLUDES PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS, SARAN WRAP, BREAD BAGS AND BUBBLE WRAP.  PLEASE DISPOSE OF IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD WASTE. 
  8. Appliances

    NON FREON APPLIANCES
    Accepted at all transfer stations as well as at the landfill.

    Metal appliances can be placed in the metal recycling.

    FREON APPLIANCES
    Refridgerators and Freezers. 

    Not accepted at the Landfill.
    Accepted at all transfer stations for a fee of $20.00
  9. Concrete Ashphalt Cement

    Ashphalt and concrete must be taken to the landfill for disposal.  
    Tipping Fee - $35.00/tonne
  10. Electronics

    Computer monitors, CPU's, printers, TV's  (subject to change)
  11. Asbestos

    The Landfill will accept asbestos materials on Mondays only and prior arrangements must be made. Materials must be double bagged using 6ml. yellow bags. These can be purchased at most industrial retail locations. Phone: 403-845-4580


  12. Furniture and Household Items 

    There are 2 options for furniture disposal:
    If the item is in reasonable good condition and you would like to donate the item, it will be accepted at the Rocky Transfer Stations Re-Use Building.

    If the Item is not in good condition or you do not wish to donate, It can be taken to any of the RWA Facilities during business hours for disposal.  
  13. Batteries


    Batteries can be taken to any of the Transfer Stations for recycling.

    Batteries from Cell phones, cordless phones, power tool, laptops and vehicles, etc.​
    ALKALINE BATTERIES
     AA, AAA, 9V, 6V, etc.

    ​The Landfill does not accept Batteries.
     

Rules and Guidelines for Waste Disposal

1.  Absolutely no Hazardous materials will be accepted.
*No Ashes 
*No Concrete
*No animal carcases

2.  All Freon appliances are $20.00 each. This also includes water coolers, refridgerators and freezers.
 
3.  All herbicide and pesticide containers must be triple rinsed.  No Exceptions
 
4.  Children must remain in the vehicle at all times when disposing of waste or recycling goods.  
 
5.  All Vehicles must check in with station attendant at window.

5.  Any loads that are larger than a half ton box sized load, must go to the Landfill for disposal.

 Rocky Regional Landfill

The Rocky Regional Landfill is a Class II Non-Hazardous Industrial landfill located 19 km west of Rocky Mountain House on Hwy 11.  

HOURS OF OPERATION
Monday - Friday 8am - 4 pm
​​The landfill will no longer be open on Saturdays or Statutory Holidays.



  LANDFILL GENERAL SAFETY RULES
  
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL PERSONS ENTERING THE SITE UNDERSTAND AND ABIDE BY THESE SAFETY RULES.

A minimum distance of 20 feet must be maintained between all personnel, trucks, rolling stock and heavy equipment.
 
All drivers exiting the vehicle must remain within 6 feet of the vehicle at all times.

Children must remain in the vehicle at the working face. 
 
Smoking is prohibited in the pit.
 
Horseplay, scavenging or picking through loads is strictly prohibited.
 
All loads are subject to random inspection by landfill personnel.
 
All Contractors, Account Holders, Landfill staff and Truck Drivers must wear PPE. 

 
 ALL PERSONS AND VEHICLES ENTER THE LANDFILL AT THEIR OWN RISK.  NEITHER THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGIONAL SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OR CLEARWATER COUNTY ASSUMES LIABILITY FOR BODILY INJURY, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE WHILE ON LANDFILL PROPERTY.
